New location, new featured musician ... makes for a new Paint by Music event!
We at Paint by Music are so excited to join forces with Sweet Pea Cafe & Playhouse in order to bring you the fantastic sounds of local singer/songwriter Rebecca Lappa.
Rebecca Lappa is an Edmonton singer-songwriter who performs solo, duo or with her band, The Revelry. This Canadian Folk Music Awards and Edmonton Music Awards winner writes folk/pop/rock music showcasing power-house vocals, unique storytelling, and thought provoking lyrics. Her story songs about history, life and love are infused with a youthful perspective that inspire, entertain and draw in the young and old.
Wowing audiences on stages large and small, Lappa has opened for The Crash Test Dummies, Digging Roots, Jenn Grant, Leeroy Stagger, Maria Dunn and Mike Plume and performed at many festivals. As a follow-up to her JSR Factor Funded CD, "Reckless Heart", Lappa released her latest EP “Spirit” in Dec. 2017. It features the song “Valiant of Vimy” that won the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta’s Spirit of Vimy contest, earned an Edmonton Music Award nomination, charted nationally on campus radio and led to a Remembrance Day performance at the Butterdome for 5000 people.
2018 has been a stand out year for this 5 time CFMA nominee (2011-2015). In the last year, Lappa toured 45 dates across Canada including Via Rails Artist On Board, was Top 100 in CBC’s 2018 Searchlight, Top 10 finalist in the My United Way Voice Contest, performed at the Edmonton Folk Music Festival (2nd time) and showcased at both COCA and The Arts Touring Alliance of Alberta. She won the Bell Media Prize to attend Canada’s Music Incubator in Toronto, won 1st place (3rd time) in Calgary’s Ship and Anchor Songwriting contest, received an Honourable Mention in the 2018 Canadian Songwriting Competition, participated for the 2nd time in the SOCAN Songhouse at BreakOut West 2018 and performed at the Grey Cup Festival's Alberta House.
Lappa, a MacEwan grad, is currently writing music for Cymba Music Publishing in Toronto and was commissioned to write a theme song for the No Stone Left Alone Memorial Foundation. In November, Lappa released her single “Poison Rose” with Radar Love Records. As she heads into 2019, Lappa is excited to work with her new manager, Mandy Wheelwright (The Be Good Tanyas, Frazey Ford, Steph Cameron, Twin Bandit) and record her most personal songs to date.
